The 35-year-old actress has an impressive resume: Columbiana, Avatar, Star Trek 1 & 2. She continues to be one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood. In an interview with Women’s Health the star talked about turning to her trainer for motivation, and mixing things up so she doesn’t get bored. As for food, Saldana told the magazine that she believes in balance but still does sometimes “pig out on pasta”! That sounds like great balance for such a hard working actress!


Saldana was born Zoe Yadira Saldaña Nazario in New Jersey. Her father died when she was young in a car accident and her mother, raised her in a proud Latin household. Saldana speaks both English and Spanish, and in her family’s move to the Dominican Republic discovered her love of dance, enrolling in the ECOS Espacio de Danza Academy. After moving back to Queens, Saldana became involved in a theatre group in Brooklyn and New York, which caught the attention of a talent agency.


Zoe Saldana became a household name, when James Cameron’s 2009 juggernaut film Avatar came out. The actress worked closely together with the motion capture team to play Neytiri in the film. In fact, her resume is lined with big box office films such as her role as Anamaria in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and Uhura in widely successful reboot of Star Trek.

In the film, Saldana definitely looked to part. To get to that level, she employed the help of famous fitness trainer Steve Moyer three to four days a week.

While we all do not have access to that expertise, Moyer clues us into a couple of tricks from his sessions with Zaldana. Working with an exercise ball, resistance band, mat and cable rack is all you need. These exercises focus on the problem areas up top and tone your triceps. Of course, the key to any work out is to make sure the body is ready for it. A good cardio warm up will get your limber and ready. Place the ball behind you, against a wall so that you are able to squat and roll the ball with you. At the bottom of the squat, use the resistance band to stretch it across your chest. These exercises seem easy, but are very controlled and take a lot of endurance.

The actress is thin at the 115 pounds she recently revealed to Allure magazine, but do not let that fool you! She is strong-willed and has been on record saying that she does not need anyone to open any jars for her. She attributes her thin frame, to being a ballet dancer when she was younger and is comfortable in her own body.
