Mark Wahlberg – up to "2014" Lifestyle Updates.
Mark Wahlberg (180 pounds, 5 feet 8.5 inches).

The actor is no stranger to changing his body for roles. For his character in Pain and Gain the actor reportedly had to gain 40 pounds of muscle in just seven weeks! The actor says he ate 10-12 times a day just to help put on the weight, and decreased the amount of cardio time he did. His workout routine involved five days of intense training with personal trainer, Bryan Nguyen.

Wahlberg was born June 5, 1971 in Boston, Massachusetts as the youngest of nine children. He comes from mixed ancestry from his divorced parents: Swedish and Irish from his father and Irish, English and Canadian from his mother. The actor is a stout Roman Catholic and attends church daily. He never finished high school in Boston when he was young but recently got his diploma on June 2013. Wahlberg had a connection with the industry growing up as he is the younger brother of Donnie Wahlberg of the successful boy band New Kids on the Block.

This actor has had a very tumultuous past –with cocaine as his personal demon. His past is marked by a racist history that involves the harassment of African-American children when he was fifteen years old. A year later, he went on to viciously attack Vietnamese older man on two separate occasions leaving one permanently blind in one eye. His 45-day experience in jail served as a harsh visual of what his life could turn into if he did not make changes. Since then with the aid of religion to avoid that path, that he could see three of his brothers and sister had slipped into with repeated jail time. Since then in interviews Wahlberg has taken responsibility for his violent past and tries to do good to amend for his actions.

This celebrity has an unusual resume ranging from acting credentials, to modeling and being a former rapper. He started with the latter, as a frontman for the band Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch in 1991. A series of singles led to him being able model for the now infamous Calvin Klein underwear ads. Wahlberg decided to pursue acting seriously and started in Boogie Nights (1997), Three Kings (1999), The Perfect Storm (2000), Planet of the Apes (2001), Rock Star (2001), The Italian Job (2003), The Departed (2006), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Wahlberg found massive success in the comedies The Other Guys (2010) and the 2012 Ted. These films revealed a comedic timing that resonated with the audience. Wahlberg also executive produces three HBO series: Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, and How to Make It in America.

Health and Wellness:

You can see an earlier version of Wahlberg’s fitness dedication in his workout video The Marky Mark Workout: Form... Focus... Fitness. This actor trained with Bryan Nguyen to go through an intensive body overhaul for his film Pain and Gain. Some of the insight from this intensive routine follows: It is a 5- day routine with two days a week off. This regiment is targeted to gain bulk fast, so it starts early in the morning followed by a quick nap and cardio in the afternoon. The key is the weightlifting with a system of 4 sets of 8 to 12 repetitions. The goal is not to do more reps but keep increasing the weight so that 12 reps are done with difficulty. A superset is doing two exercises back to back, with multiple parts so that many muscles groups are isolated and exercises.

If that seems daunting, Wahlberg’s advice is to ease into exercise. You have to pair intensive weight lifting with increased rest and nutrition to feed the body. For the actor, to bulk up fast for a role that meant whopping 12 meals a day! That meant an overload of food ranging from protein shakes, chicken, pasta, and burgers with the actor sometimes getting up during the middle of the night for another meal. Of course this kind of health program was role specific, and soon as the film wrapped up the actor started playing basketball to lose the weight for another role in 2 Guns with Denzel Washington. Despite the body needed for the film, the actor admits that the regular exercise and diet makes his feel a lot better for the rest of the day.
