Heigl was born on November 24, 1978 in West End, Washington, D.C as the youngest of four siblings to parents Nancy and Paul. The actress comes from German, Irish and Swiss decent, as was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She moved around as a child from Virginia, to Denver before finally settling down in the town of New Canaan in Connecticut. A horrible car accident left her older brother dead, which left a large mark on Heigl and became a strong motivator in her decision to advocate for organ transplant, as she grew older.


Katherine Marie Heigl has had a tumultuous career as an American actress and film producer. Her role as Isabel Evans in the show Roswell had a small cult following that mourned when it ended. It was the chance to play Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on ABC's Grey's Anatomy from 2005 to 2010 that established Heigl as a premier actress in the industry. Controversy surrounded her decision to leave the series and followed her into her venture into films. Heigl starred in a series of films around the same time such as Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, Knocked Up, 27 Dresses, The Ugly Truth, Killers, Life As We Know It and New Year's Eve. The actress gained box office success but rumors of her difficulty on set trickled through to the media. Despite this, the actress is happily married to singer Josh Kelley, with her family of two adopted daughters.

Health and Wellness

Heigl has learned all her health tips from popular Hollywood trainer Harley Pasternak who has pushed the star as fat as she has ever been. The actress has always been healthy but cardio for up to 50 minutes a day, five tines a week has toned up her body. To cultivate health, on set Heigl jumps rope, lifts dumbbells and does crunches. For each exercise activity, does 25 repetitions followed by 25 minutes of cardio (biking, stair climbing, elliptical) and a five-minute cool down period.

In terms of diet, the actress follows the Pasternak's 5-Factor Diet, which supplies five high-protein and high-fiber meals a day. This lifestyle choice has meals that only have five ingredients to give a balance of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, fat and fluids. There is a scheduled cheat day, but most meals consist of berry shakes, sea bass, rice, edamame, black beans and chicken.
